The Monastery of Saints Peter and Paul in Germagno is a Benedictine priory of the Sublacense-Cassinese Congregation, founded in 1971.
Set on the slopes of Mount Massone, it overlooks Lake Orta as if from a natural balcony.
The community currently consists of twelve monks, joined by seven “brothers and sisters in the world”. Two sisters also live near the monastery, seeking to make the community’s monastic spirit their own through a more eremitic way of life.
Despite the differences arising from our individual vocations, we all seek to bear witness to one “community”, deeply committed to the good of each of its members and to living in the spirit of the good zeal that Benedict describes in chapter 72 of his Rule.

The community follows the Benedictine tradition. “Listen, my son…”, the opening invitation of the Rule of Saint Benedict, expresses the importance of listening. The “good zeal” described in chapter 72 guides the community’s care for the good of each of its members.
Who belongs to the monastery’s community?
Alongside the monks are the “brothers and sisters in the world”. Two sisters also live near the monastery, sharing its monastic spirit through a more eremitical way of life. Despite their different vocations, all seek to bear witness as one community.
What role does work play in the monks’ lives?
Work supports the community and is also a means of human and spiritual growth, closely linked to prayer in the tradition of “ora et labora”. It includes caring for the garden and woodland, farming and processing fruit. Discover the monks’ work.
Does the monastery welcome Scout groups?
From April to September, the community welcomes Scout groups with their own tents in a monastery field equipped with drinking-water taps and portable toilets to be set up on arrival. The minimum age requirement corresponds to the Italian “Branca Rover e Scolte”, the older Scout section covering ages 15 to 21, including its introductory stage (“noviziato”).
